Project give-a-hug is showcase of redesigned interior at little friends

ASID ILLINOIS Gives Back recently donated gifts of time, services and materials for the renovation of the lobby and kitchen at Naperville’s Little Friends, Inc.

ASID Illinois Gives Back recently completed Project Give-A-Hug, the pro-bono renovation of the reception area, board room, and kitchen in the administrative building of Little Friends, Inc. in Naperville.

The ASID Illinois Gives Back committee was created for the purpose of facilitating charitable projects through the coordination of interior designers and industry partners, while demonstrating the goodwill and talents of ASID Illinois and its members.

Little Friends lovingly has been providing programs for children and adults with autism and other developmental difficulties for more than 50 years.

The redesign of Little Friends, Inc.’s reception area and kitchen – titled “Project Give-A-Hug” – began in the spring of 2014. The ASID Gives Back committee — Dan McFadden, Past Basket Design; Roxanne Essex, Maggie’s Interiors; Sonia Dumont, Atelier Jouvence Custom Stoneworks; Mike Lennon, Ayr Custom Cabinetry and Sue Colbert, Colbert Custom Framing & Art Printing — set out to promote the project, raise funds and recruit donations of products and services.

More than 20 ASID Illinois Industry Partners and friends teamed up to make the project a reality, with nearly 100 percent of the needs donated. Enough funds were raised to cover associated costs with surplus available for Little Friends to purchase wish list items.

McFadden served as project manager, providing organization and oversight of the project, which was completed in mid-April 2016.

Major donors include Karndean Design Flooring and DeSitter Flooring, who teamed up to provide luxury vinyl tile throughout the space; Amberleaf Cabinetry, cabinetry and countertop factory, and Slusarz Corporation for the kitchen cabinetry and counters; Painting in Partnership and Benjamin Moore for all the painting; Ferguson, Pirch, River Oak, and Delta for the appliances, sink, and faucet; Desks, Inc. and Installation Specialists, Inc. for the high tech reception desk; and Arhaus who donated furniture for the reception area.

Additional funding for the project was provided by McKay Custom Sports, Colbert Custom Framing & Art Printing, and the ASID Illinois Far West Suburban Peer Group.

Professional photographs of the completed space were donated by Ted Glasoe Photography.
